Freetown, Sierra Leone —  August 15, 2026: Dr. Ibrahim Bangura, Leader of the DIB Movement and APC Flagbearer Aspirant, has called for restraint and strict adherence to constitutional procedures following parliamentary proceedings on the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

Dr. Bangura welcomed the Speaker’s decision to refer the matter to the Supreme Court under Section 94(2) of the Constitution and urged the Court to provide clarity without unnecessary delay. He supported the APC’s position that further action on the bill should be suspended, pending judicial consideration of the constitutional issues.

Dr. Bangura also called on the President Bio to withhold assent until the Supreme Court has pronounced on the matter, while urging broad consultations involving political parties, civil society, legal experts and other national stakeholders.

He stressed that constitutional amendments are matters of national importance and should not be driven by partisan interests. “Our party is greater than any individual, and the future of Sierra Leone is greater than any political party.”

Dr. Bangura urged APC members and all stakeholders to remain calm, united and disciplined, and to pursue lawful and constructive engagement.

He said the ultimate goal must be to protect Sierra Leone’s constitutional order, strengthen democratic institutions and ensure that any constitutional reform reflects the long-term interests and confidence of the people.
