Sierra Leone – December 2, 2025: The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has confirmed receipt of NLe 120,000 from the leadership of the All People’s Congress (APC), following a fine imposed on the party for breaching provisions of the Political Parties Act (No. 25) of 2022.

According to the Commission, the fine was levied on November 17, 2025, after APC member Hon. Lahai Marrah, Falaba District Chairman, contravened Section 39(1)(d) of the Act during a political engagement on November 15, 2025.

In a statement issued Tuesday, December 2, the PPRC thanked the APC for complying with the penalty and urged the party to take further steps to ensure that its members, supporters, and operatives conduct themselves within the confines of the law.

Background to the Fine

The Political Parties Act of 2022 was enacted to strengthen Sierra Leone’s democratic governance and regulate the activities of political parties. Section 39(1)(d) specifically prohibits parties and their members from engaging in conduct deemed disruptive, unlawful, or contrary to the principles of political accountability.

Violations under this section can attract fines, suspensions, or other sanctions depending on the severity of the offence. The NLe 120,000 fine imposed on the APC reflects the Commission’s mandate to enforce compliance and maintain discipline across the political landscape.

The PPRC has consistently emphasized that adherence to the Act is critical for safeguarding peace, stability, and fair competition among political parties.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring political activities nationwide and called on all parties to uphold the law. It noted that compliance, as demonstrated by the APC, sets a precedent for accountability and respect for democratic institutions.
