Freetown, September 24, 2025: Appeal Court Justice Alhaji Momoh Jah Stevens has initiated legal proceedings against his alleged partner, 21-year-old Edwina Hawa Jamiru, on charges of domestic violence. The case is currently being heard before Magistrate Mamakoh Saio Kallon at Pademba Road Court No. 3 in Freetown.
Jamiru faces three counts of domestic violence, contrary to Section 2(1) of the Domestic Violence Act of 2007. According to the charge sheet, the alleged incident occurred on August 27, 2025, at Kowa Drive, Mothormeh Regent, where Jamiru is accused of physically abusing and intimidating Justice Stevens, with whom she is reportedly in a domestic relationship.
When the matter was first called on Monday, September 23, the defendant failed to appear in court. Police Prosecutor Inspector Mohamed Kamara subsequently applied for a bench warrant, which was granted by Magistrate Kallon. Jamiru was later arrested and brought before the court, where she was remanded in custody.
The case has been adjourned to September 25, 2025, for further hearing. The proceedings have drawn public attention due to the involvement of a senior judicial figure and the broader implications for domestic violence accountability in Sierra Leone.
