Freetown, Sierra Leone – April 19, 2025 In a heartfelt display of compassion and humanitarian service, Ataya Base Organisation International extended support to the residents of Cheshire Home in Cline Town, East Freetown, providing essential food supplies as part of its annual outreach program. The donation, which included bags of rice, onions, cartons of tomatoes, and gallons of groundnut oil, aimed to uplift vulnerable groups, particularly children and persons with disabilities.
Commitment to Humanity and Generosity
The organization, which consists of humanitarians in Sierra Leone and the diaspora, has long been recognized for its consistent service to society, ensuring that those in need receive help. Elkana Omotayo Harding, Financial Secretary of the organization, emphasized that the initiative was a collective effort.
“It’s not just those of us here – we’re representing a large body of committed members, both at home and abroad. These donations come from the heart. This is not for show – there’s a real need,” Harding stated.
Reflecting on the organization’s long-standing commitment, he reiterated that their involvement in supporting Cheshire Home was not a one-time effort.
“Last year we were here and did the same. This year, no one begged us, no one had to convince us. We did it because we know who needs this support. By God’s grace, we’ll be back next year to do even more,” he assured.
Cheshire Home’s Gratitude for the Support
Welcoming the donation, Rev. Canon Dr. Reginald Saine-Pratt, Archdeacon and senior member of Cheshire Home’s management committee, expressed profound gratitude for the assistance provided.
“While the staff here work tirelessly to feed, care for, and support the children, the challenges they face are immense. It is through the generosity of kind-hearted organizations and individuals like Ataya Base Organisation International that we can continue this important work,” he stated.
Saine-Pratt emphasized that external assistance is not just appreciated, but vital in ensuring the well-being and stability of the home’s residents.
“Meeting the basic needs of these children—especially food—remains an ongoing challenge, but your support makes all the difference. We pray that these provisions nourish and sustain the children for as long as possible,” he added.
Voices from the Beneficiaries
Echoing the sentiments of appreciation, Unisa Carew, the facility manager, described the donation as a lifeline, offering much-needed relief to the home.
“This contribution comes at a time when we needed it most. It ensures that the children continue to receive the care and attention they deserve,” he expressed.
One of the beneficiaries, Blessing S. Kallon, shared her emotional testimony, highlighting the struggles faced by the residents.
“Life here has been tough for all of us. While the government does what it can, it’s often not enough to meet all of our needs. When organizations like yours come through, it feels like a beacon of hope,” she said.
A Renewed Sense of Hope and Community
As the event concluded, the atmosphere was filled with warmth and gratitude. Smiles were exchanged, prayers were offered, and a renewed sense of hope was felt within Cheshire Home, reaffirming that acts of kindness can have a lasting impact.
Ataya Base Organisation International’s commitment to serving humanity continues to inspire, with promises of continued support for vulnerable communities in Sierra Leone.
