Freetown — In a landmark event at the Bintumani Conference Centre on Saturday, July 26, 2025, Bai Mahmoud Bangura officially launched the Bai Mahmoud Bangura (BMB) Foundation and announced his intention to contest for the All People’s Congress (APC) standard bearer position ahead of the 2028 elections.

The declaration ceremony drew hundreds of APC supporters and party executives from across Sierra Leone, marking a significant moment in the party’s political trajectory.

Bai Mahmoud Bangura, a former Minister of Youth and National Youth League President under President Ernest Bai Koroma’s administration, underscored his commitment to reclaiming State House. He emphasized his deep connection to ordinary citizens and vowed to challenge skepticism with performance and results.

“I come from humble beginnings, raised by my sisters after the loss of my father,” Bangura shared. “I know what hardship looks like, and I’m here to serve and uplift the people.”

Launching the BMB Foundation

The BMB Foundation was introduced as a nationwide initiative aimed at empowering underprivileged communities and supporting youth development. Abu Bakarr Ibrahim Kamara, the foundation’s Programs Manager, described it as a platform to deliver grassroots support beyond political interests.

Prince Tholley, former president of the Young Congress, announced Bai Mahmoud as the foundation’s CEO and praised his track record of community-focused development.

Strong Support from Party Leadership

Chairman Manga of APC West District lauded the turnout and affirmed the party’s strength in the region. Hon. A.K.K. described Bangura as “an epitome of APC,” stating, “When people fail to do the right thing, their lives are at risk. The time for action is now.”

Ambassador Alimamy Kamara called the campaign a movement for development rather than politics-as-usual, urging unity and a break from tribalism. He further stressed the need for political inclusion, drawing talent from academia and entrepreneurship into governance.

Deputy Publicity Secretary Mohamed Pope Kamara led the audience in a moment of silence to honor deceased comrades, while speakers echoed calls for a return to policies that prioritize youth empowerment, national development, and political stability.

As 2028 draws nearer, Bai Mahmoud Bangura’s declaration sets the stage for a new chapter in Sierra Leonean politics, with promises to revive the APC legacy and inspire a generation of leaders committed to progress.
