Freetown, Sierra Leone — A prominent businessman, Ibrahim Sorie Koroma, was remanded in custody on Thursday, October 9, 2025, after being arraigned before Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 for allegedly stealing a black leather bag containing $10,000 and other valuables from the House of Parliament.
Koroma faces a single count of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916. According to the charge sheet, the alleged theft occurred on September 8, 2025, at the Parliament building in Freetown. The stolen items reportedly include ten thousand United States dollars, Le 4,060 in cash, a Watts power bank, a Samsung mobile phone, and other assorted properties belonging to John Melvin Kuminah. The total value of the stolen items is estimated at Le 260,560.
No plea was taken during the proceedings as the charge was read and explained to the defendant. Prosecutor Sergeant 9939 Mohamed Lahai requested a short adjournment, citing the absence of key witnesses.
Magistrate Jah denied bail and ordered that Koroma be remanded at the male correctional facility in Freetown. The case has been adjourned to Thursday, October 16, 2025, for further hearing.
