Sierra Leone – March 11, 2026: The newly posted Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Zhao Yong, paid a courtesy call on the National Security Coordinator (NSCoord) and Head of the Office of National Security (ONS), Mr. Abdulai Caulker.
Welcoming the Ambassador and his delegation, Mr. Caulker expressed delight at the visit and extended warm greetings to the new envoy. He commended the longstanding bilateral relationship between Sierra Leone and China, pledging continued efforts to strengthen the close ties between the two nations.
The NSCoord provided an overview of the ONS’s role in national security coordination and encouraged the Embassy to maintain an inventory of Chinese nationals working across Sierra Leone, particularly in provincial areas. He emphasized that such measures would help safeguard their wellbeing, protect investments, and enhance national security.
In his response, Ambassador Zhao Yong conveyed his appreciation for the warm reception and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Sierra Leone. He noted the importance of collaboration with the ONS to ensure that Chinese nationals engaged in investment activities comply with local and national laws. The Ambassador pledged his firm commitment to supporting Sierra Leone’s security sector and strengthening bilateral relations.
The Deputy National Security Coordinator and Chief of Staff of the ONS also contributed to the discussions, underscoring the importance of continued collaboration between the two countries.
