Freetown, Sierra Leone – Samuel Lamin Koroma, a 49-year-old cleaner and security personnel, was remanded in custody on Wednesday following his appearance before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2. He faces a charge of Larceny by Servant, contrary to Section 17(1)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the charge sheet, the alleged incident occurred on Thursday, 18th September 2025, at Pictures and Memories Investment, located at 126 Circular Road in Freetown. Koroma, who was employed as a clerk at the establishment, is accused of stealing a Canon 70-200mm lens, two 256GB memory cards, three 128GB memory cards, a Duracell battery charging case, four Canon battery chargers, and other assorted items. The total value of the stolen property is estimated at Le575,001.
Defense counsel A.B. Marrah informed the court of his intention to cross-examine prosecution witness Sandra Beury at the next hearing. He referenced the Criminal Procedure Act of 2024, which stipulates that complainants, defendants, and witnesses must take oaths at the police station. He argued that it was now his responsibility to call witnesses if he was not satisfied with the prosecution’s evidence.
Counsel Marrah also applied for bail under Section 76(1)(c) of the same Act, stating that the defendant had reliable sureties willing to enter into recognizance on his behalf.
However, Magistrate Fornah denied the bail application, citing the seriousness of the offense and concerns over potential interference with prosecution witnesses. The defendant was remanded at the male correctional facility in Freetown.
The matter was adjourned to 3rd November 2025 for further hearing.
