Freetown, Sierra Leone – Conex Energy reaffirmed its commitment to workplace safety and community well-being as it commemorated World Safety Day on April 28, 2025. This year’s celebration centered on prevention, digital innovation, and fostering a proactive safety culture under the theme “Step Up, Step In to Strengthen Safety.”
A key focus of the event was the prevention of Mpox, a viral illness characterized by rash, swollen lymph nodes, fever, muscle pain, and fatigue. Employees were reminded to maintain proper hygiene and avoid contact with dead animals as part of essential safety measures.
Aligning with the global theme “The Impact of Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence on Workers’ Safety and Health,” Conex unveiled its proprietary digital platform, SafeConex. The system streamlines incident management, provides real-time monitoring, and leverages advanced analytics to enhance safety compliance, accelerate incident reporting, and improve resource allocation.
Speaking at the event, Conex Operations Manager Vaibhav Poladia described World Safety Day as “a unique and important moment—a global call to action.” He emphasized that safety at Conex is more than just a slogan; it is a deeply rooted core value that impacts both employees and communities. He encouraged workers to embrace the company’s 2025 vision of proactive compliance and workplace safety.
Morlai Maurice Sesay, Head of Health, Safety, Security, Environment, and Quality (HSSEQ), introduced Conex’s Safety Behaviour Card, a tool designed to empower employees and contract staff to intervene and halt unsafe work activities without fear of penalty—even if the intervention proves unnecessary. He highlighted that the card will be signed by both Conex management and contracted entities to reinforce a collective commitment to workplace safety.
Sesay further stressed that “all incidents can be avoided” and emphasized the need for continuous awareness, behavioral change, and inclusive participation in fostering a strong safety culture.
As part of its annual observance, Conex hopes that this year’s commemoration will serve as a lasting reminder of the importance of prioritizing safety in every aspect of operations, reinforcing its dedication to worker protection and industry best practices.
