FREETOWN—Two Sierra Leonean cricket coaches have departed for Abuja, Nigeria, to participate in a four-day ICC Level 2 Coaching Course, joining counterparts from across West Africa.
The coaches, Abubakar Kamara, who serves as the caretaker coach for the Under-19 Men’s Team, and Mohamed Mansaray, will begin the program on June 12 at the Moshood Abiola Stadium.
Cricket Sierra Leone (CSL) currently boasts 315 trained coaches, with efforts underway to significantly expand that number. In April, CSL trained over 200 Physical Health Education (PHE) teachers from the Western Area, pushing the total number of certified coaches beyond 500.
With a national target of 500 newly certified coaches in 2025, CSL remains committed to developing cricket at the grassroots level and enhancing coaching standards across the country.
The ICC Level 2 training is expected to equip participants with advanced coaching techniques, strengthening Sierra Leone’s capacity in the sport.
