Deputy Ambassador Attends Pope Leo XIV’s Installation at the Vatican

Vatican City, Rome – Sierra Leone’s Deputy Ambassador to Belgium and the Vatican, Mrs. Asmaa James, joined world leaders in attending the installation of Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican on May 17, 2025.

Ahead of the ceremony, on May 16, Mrs. James was among over 50 Heads of Diplomatic Missions accredited to the Vatican who met with the newly installed Pope.

Pope Leo XIV’s Message of Unity

During his address, Pope Leo XIV emphasized his vision for a united Church and world, describing unity as a “leaven for a reconciled world.”

Expressing concern over global violence and discord, the Pope called for unity, stating:

“We want to be a small leaven of unity, communion, and fraternity within the world. We want to say to the world, with humility and joy: Look to Christ! Come closer to him!”

Sierra Leone’s Representation at the Vatican

Following the diplomatic meeting, Deputy Ambassador James expressed her honor at participating in such a significant moment. She praised Pope Leo XIV’s message of peace, particularly highlighting its relevance during times of conflict.

“During war and crises, women and children suffer the most,” Mrs. James remarked, reinforcing the Pope’s call for compassion and unity.

The installation of Pope Leo XIV marks a new chapter for the Vatican, with leaders across the world acknowledging his vision for peace and reconciliation.
