Moyamba Town, Southern Sierra Leone – February 5, 2026 Deputy Minister of Energy II, Ing. Dr. Abdul Rahim Jalloh, has conducted a high-level inspection of the Moyamba Solar PV Plant as part of efforts to facilitate the seamless transfer of the facility to the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company (EGTC).
The solar plant, commissioned in December 2024 by President Julius Maada Bio, was built to boost reliable electricity supply in Moyamba and support the district’s electrification project. Dr. Jalloh emphasized that the project serves as a model for replication in other districts, underscoring its role in advancing rural electrification under Sierra Leone’s energy reforms.
EGTC Director General, Ing. Milton Ngegba, expressed gratitude to the Government of Sierra Leone, the World Bank, and UNOPS for their support, pledging continued collaboration to address outstanding issues. UNOPS Deputy Project Manager, Ing. Rashid Bangura, explained that EGTC staff had worked alongside contractors during the operation and maintenance (O&M) period to ensure a smooth handover. He noted that four quarterly inspections were carried out to resolve critical matters before the transfer.
Interim Project Coordinator at ESLEAP, Ing. Kumba Conteh, praised the progress and looked forward to the facility’s full integration under EGTC. Local stakeholders, including community leader Abu Mbogba, highlighted the positive impact of the solar installation, noting improved electricity supply and enhanced livelihoods in Moyamba.
The inspection and transfer mark another step in Sierra Leone’s broader energy sector reforms, which are closely tied to the government’s Feed Salone agenda aimed at driving national development.
