The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) has unveiled its Ultra-Modern Media Center at its Tower Hill headquarters in Freetown, marking a significant advancement in electoral transparency and communication.

Launched on May 28, 2024, the facility boasts state-of-the-art technology designed to facilitate media operations, real-time engagement, and efforts to counter misinformation. The event was attended by government officials, development partners, and media representatives.

Chief Electoral Commissioner Mohamed Konneh emphasized the center’s role in fostering inclusive communication during electoral periods. He praised the support of the government and international partners in making the project a reality.

“The role of credible and accessible communication cannot be overstated,” Konneh stated, highlighting the facility’s ability to enhance interactions with journalists, observers, political parties, and civil society.

As part of its commitment to inclusivity, the ECSL has also ensured accessibility for persons with disabilities by contracting the installation of a lift.

Commissioner for Western Area Urban, Zainab Umu Moseray, underscored the center’s importance in strengthening public engagement, aligning with the theme of the launch event: “Enhancing Civic and Electoral Education for Informed and Inclusive Participation.”

Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, commended the ECSL for its innovation and urged other institutions to follow suit. He emphasized the need for neutrality in media reporting and reaffirmed the government’s support for initiatives that bolster civic participation.

The facility will play a key role throughout the 2025–2029 electoral cycle, hosting press briefings, monitoring media coverage, and ensuring transparency in the electoral process.
