The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has officially announced that the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will commence on Monday, 20 July 2026 and conclude on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, in line with the timetable approved by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The clarification comes after an earlier notice mistakenly cited 6 July as the start date, sparking anxiety among candidates and families. In a statement issued by Minister Conrad Sackey, the Ministry apologized for the confusion and reassured pupils, parents, and teachers that the revised schedule is final.
Minister Sackey urged candidates to remain calm and use the extra time to prepare thoroughly. He also expressed gratitude to parents, teachers, and school authorities for their continued support during this critical examination period.
The announcement aims to restore confidence among stakeholders ahead of the national exams, which serve as a gateway for pupils transitioning into senior secondary education.
