Freetown, Sierra Leone, 22 August 2026 — Educationist and proprietress of Excel Daycare, Nursery and Academy, Mrs Onike King, has been recognised among the top ten of the 50 Most Influential Sierra Leonean Women Awards, in tribute to her outstanding contributions to education, early childhood development, institutional leadership and community service.
The awards ceremony, held at the Bintumani Auditorium in Freetown, was organised by a coalition of 29 women- and youth-focused advocacy organisations under the chairmanship of Edmond Alim B. Fornah, Executive Director of the Kids Advocacy Network. The initiative celebrates women whose work has significantly advanced national and community development.
Mrs King’s recognition highlights a career that spans classroom teaching, school leadership, national education policy engagement and international advocacy. Through Excel Daycare, Nursery and Academy, she has championed an approach to education that blends academic excellence with character formation, discipline and pastoral care.
Her influence extends beyond her institution. She has served on the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education’s Technical Working Group, shaping early childhood education policy, and holds leadership roles in the National Union of Private Schools and the Christian Schools Association. She also contributes to the Thrive Early Childhood Development Steering Committee and leads the GEED Foundation, supporting broader educational and community initiatives.
Internationally, Mrs King has shared her expertise in the United Kingdom, United States, China, Ghana and Nigeria, including serving as a judge on Nigeria’s Teach and Win competition. She also chairs the Sierra Leone–China Friendship Association, promoting cultural and educational ties.
Rooted in her Christian faith, Mrs King describes service and responsibility as the foundation of her leadership. Married to Mr Arnold King, with whom she has two sons, Kenneth and Kadel, she continues to advocate for education as central to Sierra Leone’s development.
