FREETOWN — On Saturday, November 1, 2025, the Empower Sierra Leone Foundation will present Mi Mama, a compelling theatre production that celebrates the strength, resilience, and love of Sierra Leonean mothers. The performance, written and directed by Sheku Limitless, will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the Methodist Girls’ High School Hall in Freetown.

Mi Mama, which translates to “My Mother,” is a heartfelt blend of humor, emotion, and cultural storytelling. The play explores the everyday experiences and sacrifices of mothers across Sierra Leone, offering audiences a vivid portrayal of maternal life through relatable dialogue and dramatic scenes.

Speaking ahead of the event, Limitless described the production as a “mirror of society,” designed to spark reflection and appreciation for the women who shape homes, communities, and the nation. “This play is more than entertainment,” he said. “It’s a tribute to the silent heroes—our mothers—who work tirelessly to provide for their families despite economic and social challenges.”

The performance is part of a broader initiative by Empower Sierra Leone Foundation to revive the country’s theatre culture. Through Mi Mama, the organization aims to promote creative storytelling as a tool for education, inspiration, and cultural preservation.

Tickets for the event are available in three categories, each named after familiar local identities to reflect different audience tiers: ‘Shekuba’ for 50 New Leones, ‘Fatmata’ for 100 New Leones, and ‘Mi Mama’ for 250 New Leones. Organizers say the pricing structure is designed to make the show accessible to a wide audience while supporting the growth of local theatre.

Limitless emphasized that the play will resonate across generations, combining laughter, wit, and life lessons to foster meaningful conversations about motherhood, gender roles, and the social realities faced by women in Sierra Leone today.

As anticipation builds, Mi Mama promises to deliver an unforgettable evening of drama and emotion—a powerful salute to the women whose stories deserve to be told.
