Engineer in Court for Alleged Theft at Leone Construction

Freetown, February 4, 2026: An Information and Technology engineer, Ibrahim Kabia, has appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah of Pademba Road Court No.1 on allegations of theft from his employer, Leone Construction and Engineering Services.

Kabia was arraigned on four counts, including Larceny by Servant contrary to Section 17(1)(a) of the Larceny Act 1916, along with related offences.

According to police reports:

  • Between 3rd and 6th October 2025, Kabia allegedly stole Le3,500 from the company’s office at No.36 Bathurst Street, Freetown.
  • On 7th–8th October 2025, he allegedly stole Le10,000.
  • On 9th October 2025, he allegedly stole Le7,500.
  • On 10th October 2025, Kabia allegedly stole a 55-inch Samsung plasma television valued at US$1,350 and an LG monitor valued at Le800, bringing the total alleged theft to Le33,950.

When the charges were read and explained, no plea was taken.

Prosecutor Inspector Mabel M. Tarawally Esq. informed the court that she had formally served the defendant’s counsel with a copy of the case file, pursuant to Section 98(1) of the Criminal Procedure Act 2024.

Defence counsel I. Kargbo Esq. acknowledged receipt and applied for bail, arguing that Kabia is a Sierra Leonean resident with reliable sureties prepared to stand for him. The application was made under Section 76(1)(c) of the Criminal Procedure Act No.8 of 2024.

Bail Decision

Magistrate Jah granted bail in the sum of Le50,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties must:

  • Be resident in Freetown.
  • Produce valid identity cards showing their addresses.
  • Be gainfully employed.

The bail is to be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar. The matter has been adjourned to 6 February 2026 for further proceedings.
