Ex-Military Officer Faces Treason Charges in Sierra Leone

Freetown, Sierra Leone – May 15, 2025 – Former military officer Sallieu Jalloh has been remanded at Pademba Road Correctional Center following his arraignment on treason charges related to the failed coup attempt of November 26, 2023.

Jalloh appeared before Magistrate Shar Kekura at Court No.1, where he was formally charged with two countsTreason under Section 3 (1) (a) of the Treason and State Offences Act 1963, and Misprision of Treason, which refers to failure to report or conceal treasonous acts.

Allegations of Coup Planning and Arms Procurement

Court documents allege that between January 1, 2024, and March 13, 2025, Jalloh actively prepared to overthrow the government of Sierra Leone by unlawful means.

Prosecutors claim he conspired with Captain Aiah Aba Senesie, Sergeant Bangura, Retired Sergeant Kamara, and other unnamed individuals to acquire AK-47 rifles for use in the alleged coup attempt.

Further allegations state that Jalloh facilitated contacts with police officers and military personnel to procure weapons and ammunition, and instructed associates on March 8, 2024, to be on standby for an imminent power transition.

Additionally, it is alleged that between November 26, 2023, and November 26, 2024, Jalloh knowingly concealed the commission of treason, failing to report conspirators involved in the plot.

Following the reading of charges, Jalloh did not enter a plea, and bail was denied due to the gravity of the offenses. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 19, 2025.
