The Sierra Leone Film Council (SLFC) has formalized a landmark partnership with the Federation of Allied Tourism Associations (FATA), aimed at strengthening collaboration between the film and tourism sectors and repositioning Sierra Leone as a premier destination for both industries. The agreement was signed on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
The partnership confirms SLFC’s official membership within FATA, one of the country’s most influential tourism umbrella organizations representing 21 unions and associations, including hotels, travel agencies, restaurants, nightclubs, beach bars, casinos, chefs’ associations, taxi operators, and event planners.
Under the terms of the agreement, FATA will provide filmmakers with operational support and improved access to tourism facilities such as hotels, beaches, restaurants, nightlife venues, and event spaces that can serve as prime filming locations. Stakeholders believe the collaboration will stimulate film-induced tourism, attract international productions, create jobs for creatives and tourism workers, and strengthen Sierra Leone’s destination branding.
Aiah Momoh, President of the Sierra Leone Film Council, described the partnership as a strategic turning point. “Film is not just entertainment; it is a powerful economic and cultural tool. By working closely with the tourism sector, we are deliberately positioning our stories, locations, and talents to attract investment, promote our culture, and showcase Sierra Leone to the world,” he said. Momoh emphasized that aligning film production with tourism infrastructure would create a mutually reinforcing ecosystem benefiting filmmakers, tourism operators, and local communities.
Tourism representatives highlighted the role of film in shaping global perceptions of destinations, noting that cinematic storytelling remains one of the most effective ways to showcase Sierra Leone’s pristine beaches, historical landmarks, cultural heritage, hospitality, and vibrant entertainment lifestyle to international audiences.
Both SLFC and FATA reaffirmed their commitment to sustained collaboration, innovation, and policy support, with the ultimate goal of positioning Sierra Leone as a leading hub for film production and tourism development in West Africa.
