Five-Step Leap: S/Leone Among Top Movers in Corruption Rankings

Freetown, Sierra Leone – February 10, 2026: Sierra Leone has recorded significant progress in the fight against corruption, moving up five places in Transparency International’s 2025 Corruption Perception Index (CPI). The country advanced from 114th position in 2024 to 109th out of 182 countries surveyed, according to the CPI report released on 10 February 2026.

The nation also improved its score from 33 in 2024 to 34 in 2025—above the Sub-Saharan Africa average of 32 and the second-highest score Sierra Leone has achieved since the CPI rankings began. Over the past seven years, Sierra Leone has climbed 21 places, rising from 130 in 2017 to 109 in 2025.

The CPI, widely regarded as the world’s most respected independent assessment of public sector corruption, shows Sierra Leone outperforming 73 countries globally, including 30 African nations such as Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Mali, Egypt, Cameroon, Uganda, Kenya, and Angola.

While Transparency International noted mixed results across Sub-Saharan Africa—with many countries stagnating or regressing—Sierra Leone’s performance stood out as a positive example. The country’s score also aligns with its consistent strong showing in the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s “Control of Corruption” indicator, where Sierra Leone has maintained excellent scores above 70 percent for eight consecutive years.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining this momentum. “Sierra Leone continues to make significant progress in global anti-corruption governance indices,” the Commission stated, pledging to ensure the country performs favourably in national, regional, and international assessments.
