The Freetown City Council (FCC), under its flagship Greening Project, has honored outstanding teams for their visionary proposals aimed at revitalizing and reimagining the city’s green spaces.

Eight teams submitted complete proposals out of 73 registered, with projects evaluated on drawing skills, innovation, feasibility, cost-effectiveness, environmental benefits, community value, and clarity of presentation.

Award Winners

  • Team Resilience – Best Creativity and Innovative Design
  • Team T and B – Best Environmental Benefits
  • Team Archscape – Best Community Value

Each winning team received NLe10,000, while all participants were awarded certificates in recognition of their contributions to Freetown’s green vision.

Rigorous Selection Process

Engineer Trudy Morgan, who oversaw the judging, emphasized the diversity of the panel, which included professionals from multiple disciplines related to urban greening.

“The diverse panel ensured a balanced and comprehensive assessment of the submissions,” she said, adding that despite the limited number of final entries, the quality was exceptional.

Leadership Commendations

Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr congratulated the teams, praising their creativity and commitment to sustainable urban development.

“The submissions were inspiring and reflect a clear understanding of the value of nature in shaping a resilient and sustainable city,” the Mayor noted. She added that several ideas would be refined and integrated into future FCC initiatives.

Dr. Fodei Conteh, Head of the Architecture Department, also lauded the project as a critical step toward fostering collaboration and innovation in urban planning.

The Freetown Greening Project forms part of the city’s wider efforts to enhance environmental sustainability, strengthen climate resilience, and promote community-centered urban development.
