Freetown, August 17, 2026: The Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby, PhD, MPH, together with senior leadership of the Ministry, on Monday conducted a site inspection of the ongoing construction of a modern Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS).
The USD $3.5 million project is designed to transform medical education in Sierra Leone, providing a state‑of‑the‑art learning environment for over 1,500 students.
Landmark Investment in Health Education
Dr. Demby described the facility as a symbol of government’s commitment to reshaping healthcare training and delivery.
“We will use this facility to train the next generation of health professionals,” he stated.
The new faculty will serve as a center of excellence for medical education, training, research, and innovation, reflecting the government’s vision to build a resilient healthcare system.

Once completed, the building will house:
