The framework unifies the management of Koidu Government Hospital and the Maternal Centre of Excellence (MCOE) under a single leadership structure. This integration aims to improve coordination, accountability, resource management, and the quality of maternal, newborn, and specialized healthcare services. It is expected to foster shared leadership, coordinated planning, efficient use of clinical data, and long-term sustainability, ultimately enhancing health outcomes for Kono District and beyond.

Partners In Health Leadership: The Executive Director of PIH described the JHMF as a transformative step toward healthcare excellence. She emphasized professionalism, accountability, punctuality, and teamwork as essential values for lasting change, while reaffirming PIH’s commitment to supporting government-led reforms.

Nursing and Midwifery Commitment: Dr. Patricia Bah, Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, urged nurses and midwives to uphold professional standards and patient care. She warned against absenteeism and misconduct, stressing that discipline will be enforced under the new co-management arrangement.

Government Vision: Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Clinical Services, Dr. Mustapha S. Kabba, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming Koidu Government Hospital into a premier centre of excellence. He announced plans to introduce specialist services such as a dialysis unit, CT scanner, and endoscopy unit, with a long-term vision of upgrading the hospital into a tertiary teaching institution.

Governance and Accountability: Senior Permanent Secretary, Mr. Andrew L. Sorie, described the JHMF as a landmark reform to strengthen governance, transparency, and accountability. He reminded staff of their responsibility to the people of Sierra Leone and pledged recognition for outstanding performance and integrity.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the Hospital Matron, who expressed appreciation to the Government, Ministry of Health, PIH, hospital leadership, and healthcare workers for their dedication to improving healthcare delivery in Kono District.

The launch of the Joint Hospital Management Framework underscores Sierra Leone’s commitment to building a resilient health system, strengthening partnerships, and expanding equitable access to high-quality healthcare services nationwide.
