Freetown, Sierra Leone — Justice Sahr Elogima Kekura, a seasoned legal professional with an extensive background in Sierra Leone’s judiciary, has been appointed as a High Court Judge, marking a significant advancement in his judicial career.
His elevation underscores his dedication to upholding the rule of law, having served in various judicial capacities across multiple districts.
A Career Built on Legal Excellence
Born on May 30, 1976, in Kono District, Justice Kekura has been a pillar of the judiciary, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and judicial expertise throughout his tenure. Fluent in English, Krio, and Mende, he has been instrumental in bridging legal accessibility across Sierra Leone’s diverse communities.
Justice Kekura’s academic journey laid the foundation for his judicial accomplishments:
- Bachelor of Arts Degree – Fourah Bay College (2000–2003)
- LL.B (Hons) Degree – Fourah Bay College (2004–2008)
- Barrister at Law (BL) – Sierra Leone Law School (2009–2010)
- Certificate in Maritime Security – Interregional Institute, Abidjan
- Specialized Training – Case management, environmental law, and disrupting illegal wildlife trade (2021)
Judicial Journey from Magistrate to High Court
Justice Kekura’s career began as a Pupil Barrister at Brewah & Co (2010–2011) before formally joining the judiciary in 2012.
His tenure as Magistrate saw him preside over cases in Moyamba and Bonthe (2012–2016), Port Loko, Lungi, and Mile Siaka (2016–2017), and Tonkolili, Mile 91, and Bumbuna (2017–2018). His experience deepened with postings in Kerene (2021–2022) and Ross Road Court (2022–2023) before moving to Freetown’s Pademba Road Magistrate Court, where he was promoted to Principal Magistrate in 2020.
His meticulous approach to case management, judicial oversight, and legal interpretation earned him recognition and ultimately paved the way for his appointment to the High Court.
