Koidu, Kono District — August 9, 2025: In a bid to strengthen peace and security across Sierra Leone, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Rtd. AIG Morie Lengor Esq., embarked on a strategic visit to Kono District, where he engaged key stakeholders on pressing security and crime-related concerns, according to the MIA Communications Unit.
The Minister’s visit began at the Koidu Holdings Concession Area, a seven-square-mile site guarded by police and military personnel. He commended the deployed forces for their dedication in safeguarding the company’s assets and urged them to maintain their commitment. However, he expressed concern over the limited number of personnel on site, noting that the current staffing levels are insufficient to meet the growing security demands.
During his tour, Minister Lengor convened a high-level stakeholder meeting, bringing together representatives from the Council of Paramount Chiefs, the Office of National Security, the Koidu District Council, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Kono City, Civil Society Organizations, and the Senior District Officer. He called on all parties to support the security forces and collaborate in combating organized crime to ensure a safer district.
The town hall meeting concluded with a resolution to establish a committee tasked with developing a comprehensive and inclusive security strategy. The plan will address short-, medium-, and long-term challenges identified during the deliberations.
Minister Lengor also visited the Motema and Tankoro Police Divisions, where he held discussions with Local Unit Commanders CSP Augustine Kabia and CSP Augustine Kamara. He praised their leadership and encouraged their teams to remain steadfast in protecting lives and property.
His final stops included the Sefadu Correctional Services and the National Fire Force in Koidu City. At both institutions, he commended the personnel for their service and urged them to remain diligent and committed despite operational challenges.
The Minister’s visit underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing security infrastructure and fostering collaboration among stakeholders in the fight against crime.
