Lifeline Nehemiah Projects Expands Support for Teen Mothers

Freetown, Sierra Leone – January 9, 2026:  The Lifeline Nehemiah Projects (LNP) has announced major progress in its flagship program, 2YoungLives, which provides comprehensive support to pregnant underage girls across Sierra Leone.

According to Administrative Director Philimon Kamara, the initiative has mentored 202 pregnant teenagers as of December 2025, offering them vital resources to navigate the challenges of early motherhood.

Through the program, beneficiaries received:

  • Small business capital to promote economic independence.
  • Antenatal care support to safeguard maternal health.
  • Dedicated mentors for emotional and psychological guidance.

Kamara highlighted that the project achieved a significant milestone: no maternal deaths were recorded among participants, though six stillbirths occurred.

A core focus of 2YoungLives is ensuring that teenage mothers continue their education.

Seventy-six  adolescent girls successfully returned to school with educational support. Six others were enrolled in technical and vocational institutions, equipping them with practical skills for future employment.

Despite these successes, challenges remain. Some young mothers dropped out due to migration, lack of family support, or feelings of shame. Kamara emphasized that LNP is committed to tackling these barriers and ensuring that no girl is left behind.

A Model for Community-Based Empowerment

“The 2YoungLives project underscores the importance of community-driven initiatives in empowering young girls and promoting their well-being,” Kamara said, adding that the program serves as a model for future projects supporting vulnerable populations.
