Freetown, Sierra Leone — Hon. Justice Alfred Ganda has sentenced Abdulai Kemokai to 30 months’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to stealing property valued at Le 32,750 from his elder sister. The sentencing took place during the ongoing September 2025 criminal session.

According to the prosecution, led by State Counsel Yusuf Isaac Sesay, the incident occurred on February 28, 2025, while Kemokai was residing at his sister’s home in Mothem Village along the Regent-Grafton Highway. The sister had traveled to the provinces, leaving Kemokai in charge of the house. Upon her return, she discovered that several items—including a mobile phone, Bluetooth device, and other valuables—were missing.

Initially, Kemokai denied any involvement, but later confessed to the theft during police interrogation. He admitted to selling some of the stolen items in Wellington, Freetown. None of the items were recovered.

During mitigation, lead defence counsel C. Taylor-Young described the convict as a young and promising individual who showed remorse for his actions. Justice Ganda acknowledged Kemokai’s guilty plea and cooperation, noting that he did not waste the court’s time. However, he emphasized the seriousness of the offense and sentenced Kemokai to 30 months’ imprisonment.

The case underscores the judiciary’s continued commitment to upholding justice and deterring domestic theft.
