Sierra Leone — September 1, 2025:Sidiki Kondeh, a mechanic formerly stationed at the Navy scrap garage, has been remanded in custody following allegations of theft involving auto parts and tools belonging to a military colleague. The decision was handed down by Magistrate Sao Mamakoh Kallon at Pademba Road Court No. 3 on Monday, September 1, 2025.

Kondeh faces charges of Store Breaking and Larceny, in violation of Section 26(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916. The alleged incident occurred on August 11, 2025, at the Navy Garage located within the Navy Compound in Freetown.

According to court documents, Kondeh is accused of unlawfully entering the premises and stealing items valued at approximately NLe 8,000. The stolen property reportedly includes: two motor alternators and a vehicle part (NLe 3,000); one drilling machine (NLe 500); one vehicle station (NLe 1,500);and three pairs of sneakers (scrap) (NLe 3,000).

All items are said to belong to Alpha Sawaneh, a military mechanic attached to the Navy.

During court proceedings, the second prosecution witness, Mohamed Mansaray, a military personnel, identified the complainant as his co-worker and confirmed that Kondeh had previously worked within the same compound.

Mansaray testified that on the morning of the incident, Sawaneh reported the theft to him, prompting an internal investigation. A search conducted at Kondeh’s residence led to the discovery of two alternators and other car parts believed to be stolen. Kondeh allegedly claimed the items had been given to him for repair, but authorities were not convinced and subsequently handed him over to the complainant. A formal police report was then filed.

The case has been adjourned to Thursday, September 4, 2025, for further proceedings.

The matter continues to unfold as the court seeks to determine the validity of the charges and the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft.
