FREETOWN, April 8, 2026 – The High Court of Sierra Leone has sentenced Mohamed Kabba, a driver by profession, to 30 years’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful possession and dealing in prohibited drugs.
Kabba was arraigned on a two-count indictment under Sections 7(c) and 8 of the National Drugs Control Act, 2008, following his arrest on November 14, 2025, at Mandiama PWD, Kissy Brook in Freetown. Police found him in possession of 87 wraps of kush weighing 60.9 grams, without lawful authority.
Forensic toxicologist Joseph Lahai testified that laboratory analysis confirmed the substance as kush. He explained that seven wraps, amounting to 10 grams, were sampled for examination.
In court, Kabba admitted to both using and selling kush, telling the judge that he resorted to the drug out of frustration after being deported from Spain. He pleaded for leniency, claiming he used the substance to cope with stress.
Delivering her sentencing remarks, Justice Isata Susan Sellu Tucker acknowledged Kabba’s guilty plea but stressed the gravity of the offence and its impact on society. She imposed a 30-year sentence on both counts, to run concurrently.
The judge further ordered that the seized exhibits be destroyed by the appropriate authorities in the presence of court officials.
