Motorbike Rider Freed in Larceny Case Over Lack of Prosecution

Reporting by Alimatu Jallo

Freetown, July 8, 2025 — Magistrate Mary Julian Gbloh of Court No.5 at Pademba Road yesterday discharged Mohamed Kamara, a motorbike rider accused of larceny, citing want of prosecution under Section 94 of the Criminal Procedure Act No.32 of 1965.

Kamara had been standing trial for allegedly stealing a maroon Yahoo mobile phone valued at six hundred new Leones (Le600) from Emmanuel Thomas on June 24, 2025, at Central Police Station, Wallace Johnson Street. He pleaded not guilty to the charge brought under Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.

Despite multiple court appearances, no witness came forward to testify against Kamara. Magistrate Gbloh expressed concern over the prolonged delay and reiterated the importance of a fair trial supported by evidence.

In her closing remarks, she advised Kamara to reform and focus on honest work to avoid future brushes with the law.

Kamara was formally discharged, and the matter was struck off for lack of prosecution.
