In a bid to strengthen institutional capacity and promote inclusive leadership, the newly appointed Chairman of the National Commission for Persons with Disability (NCPD), Brima Sheriff, led a comprehensive training session for the commission staff on Friday, October 3, 2025. The session took place at the Commission’s New England Ville office in Freetown.
The capacity-building workshop focused on leadership and teamwork, underscoring Chairman Sheriff’s commitment to organizational development and staff empowerment. In his opening remarks, Sheriff outlined two core objectives: to deepen staff understanding of leadership principles and to equip them with practical tools applicable in both personal and professional spheres.
“Effective leadership goes beyond the workplace,” Sheriff emphasized. “It influences how individuals engage with and inspire others in their communities.”
The session explored the essence of leadership, encouraging an inclusive approach to driving positive change and fostering collaboration.
Executive Secretary Saa Kotequee praised the timeliness and relevance of the training, noting its potential to enhance the Commission’s ability to serve persons with disabilities across Sierra Leone.
Program Manager Tamba Mondeh commended Chairman Sheriff’s initiative, highlighting the impact of the leadership principles shared during the session. “This training reflects the Chairman’s dedication to professional development and organizational growth,” Mondeh said. “It ensures that our staff are well-equipped to advocate for the rights and protection of persons with disabilities.”
The training marks a significant step in the Commission’s ongoing efforts to build a more inclusive and effective institution, capable of championing disability rights nationwide.
