August 2026: Sierra Leone’s newly appointed Chief Medical Officer, Dr. med Mustapha Sundifu Kabba, has engaged Ministry of Health leadership for the first time, outlining a vision for a more coordinated, accountable, and results‑driven health system.
The meeting, held at the Ministry’s Conference Hall in Youyi Building and chaired by Director of Hospital and Ambulance Services Mr. Ibrahim Foday‑Musa, brought together Directors, Programme Managers, and Unit Heads. Foday‑Musa congratulated Dr. Kabba, describing his appointment as timely and well deserved.
Speaking virtually from Germany, Dr. Kabba emphasized that “every life matters and every death must be properly investigated,” urging alignment with national priorities including the 300 Days of Activism, Triple Zero agenda, and National Hospital Strategy. He called for stronger collaboration across directorates, District Medical Officers, and Hospital Management Teams to translate policies into measurable improvements in healthcare delivery.
The new CMO placed strong emphasis on teamwork, urging staff to break down silos, communicate openly, and avoid seeking individual credit for collective achievements. He reminded healthcare workers of the immense responsibility entrusted to them by patients who rely on the system for their lives and wellbeing.
Representatives from Nursing and Midwifery, Primary Healthcare, Food and Nutrition, Pharmaceuticals, Oral Health, Laboratory and Blood Services, and Community Health congratulated Dr. Kabba and expressed confidence in his leadership. District Medical Officers and Hospital Management Teams pledged support, highlighting priorities such as reducing maternal and child mortality, strengthening nutrition, pharmaceutical supply chains, and laboratory services.
