Freetown, Sierra Leone – December 2025: The Office of the Vice President has emerged as champions of the Inter-Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA) Football Gala, defeating the Ministry of Finance in a dramatic penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regular time.
The National Petroleum Regulatory Agency (NPRA) claimed third place after the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) abandoned their match, citing a controversial sending-off of one of their players.
Awards and Prizes
Champions (Office of the Vice President): NLe 100,000
Runners-up (Ministry of Finance): NLe 70,000
Third Place (NPRA): NLe 50,000
- Individual honors were also presented:
- Top Goal Scorer: Tom Bongay (Office of the Vice President) – 8 goals
- Player of the Tournament: Sulaiman Bangura (Ministry of Finance)
- Golden Glove: Mohamed I. Mansaray (Office of the Vice President)
The official kick-off and trophy presentation were conducted by Mr. Baba Fortune, Secretary to the President.
The National Sports Authority (NSA), organizers of the event, highlighted that the gala was designed to promote teamwork, camaraderie, and healthy competition among government institutions, fostering collaboration and mutual respect.
In a statement, the NSA expressed gratitude to all participating MDAs, the media, Sierra Leone Police, supporters, and football fans for their contributions to the success of the tournament.
