Freetown, November 13, 2025: Telecommunications company One Mobile has introduced a new payroll deduction scheme designed to make next-generation smartphones and unlimited data more accessible to Sierra Leone’s public and civil service employees.

The initiative, launched by One Mobile’s Chief Operating Officer David Kpakima, offers eligible employees a 5G smartphone with zero deposit, unlimited monthly data, and easy payroll deductions of NLe 450 per month over 24 months. Deductions are set to begin within 10 days.

Speaking at the launch, Kpakima highlighted Sierra Leone’s rapid transformation in internet connectivity, driven by major investments in fibre and next-generation networks. Since the launch of its Metro Space initiative in 2022, One Mobile has deployed over 180,000 meters of fibre network nationwide, improving access for both businesses and households.

He further noted that One Mobile has achieved a technological milestone by introducing West Africa’s first mobile 5G Standalone network, positioning Sierra Leone as a pioneer in advanced connectivity. The standalone 5G system integrates with existing 4G infrastructure, offering greater reliability, lower latency, and faster speeds while overcoming fibre limitations.

Currently, the network covers nearly 85% of Freetown, with expansion underway across other regions.

Representative from One Mobile’s Sales and Distribution Department, Horatio Dove Pratt, explained that the smartphone initiative is part of the company’s inclusive digital strategy. It allows employees to own a 5G device without upfront costs, enjoy unlimited data, and pay conveniently through payroll deductions.

Pratt emphasized that the scheme reflects One Mobile’s commitment to digital inclusion, ensuring that every Sierra Leonean has access to world-class internet services.

With this development, One Mobile continues to lead Sierra Leone’s digital transformation, bringing the country closer to a fully connected future.
