Makeni, August 21, 2026: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has commended the Karene District Council for its outstanding performance and prudent financial management during ongoing public hearings on the 2024 Auditor General’s Report.
The commendation was delivered on Friday at the Makeni City Council Hall, where the PAC engaged councils from the Northern and North‑Eastern regions to examine audit findings and assess compliance with accountability standards.
Acting Chairman Hon. PC MP Desmond M. Kargobai and other MPs expressed satisfaction with the manner in which Chief Administrator Mr. Macavoary and his team responded to audit queries. The Committee particularly praised the Council for surpassing its revenue targets, describing the achievement as a clear indication of effective leadership and improved financial administration.
Despite being relatively new compared to other councils, Karene District Council was recognised as steadily establishing itself and showing strong potential to meet expectations.
Opposition Whip Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara, representing Kambia District, lauded the Chief Administrator and staff for their dedication and determination to translate the Council’s vision into tangible results. He highlighted their willingness to embrace accountability and continuously improve performance.
The Committee reviewed queries relating to insufficient evidence of community participation in the budgetary process and concerns over the full receipt of budgetary grants from central government. While noting these issues, the PAC acknowledged the Council’s positive strides and encouraged the team to strengthen systems to address outstanding gaps.
In its concluding remarks, the PAC expressed overall satisfaction with the Council’s performance, praising the Chief Administrator for providing purposeful leadership and fostering teamwork. The Committee emphasised that Karene District Council’s progress is a positive example of how effective leadership, accountability, and commitment can drive improved local governance and financial management.
The PAC congratulated Mr. Macavoary and his team, urging them to continue making Karene District Council a model of transparency, accountability, and service delivery.
