Parliament swears in New MP

Parliament on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, officially swore in Hon. Mohamed Shebora Bangura of Kambia District as a Member of Parliament, following the passing of the late Hon. Ernest Dura Koroma. Hon. Bangura will now represent the people of Tonko Limba in the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone.

The swearing-in was conducted in line with the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, as amended, and under the Proportional Representation System. Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas Esq., cited Regulation 2022 and a notification letter from the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone confirming Hon. Bangura’s election.

Pursuant to Section 83 of Act No. 6 of the 1991 Constitution and Standing Order 1(A), Speaker Thomas invited the Clerk of Parliament to administer the oath. Acting Clerk Gilbert Bosco N’habay, accompanied by parliamentary leadership, administered the Oath of Office. Hon. Bangura was then presented with copies of the Standing Orders and the 1991 Constitution for guidance in parliamentary proceedings.

In his congratulatory message, Speaker Thomas welcomed Hon. Bangura on behalf of all MPs and encouraged him to learn from senior colleagues. He emphasized the importance of studying the Standing Orders and the Constitution to become an effective parliamentarian.

The Speaker also underscored the value of punctuality, reminding the new MP that parliamentary sittings begin promptly at 10:00 a.m.

The ceremony marked the official start of Hon. Mohamed Shebora Bangura’s tenure as representative of Kambia District, strengthening the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone.
