Freetown, July 21,  2025 — Officers from the Sierra Leone Police Force’s Kissy Division have successfully dismantled a suspected counterfeit money operation, following a series of coordinated raids in the eastern parts of the capital.

According to a situation report from the Division’s Operations Officer, the operation began when OC Wellington alerted the team about a suspect who was apprehended in possession of fake currency. Acting swiftly, officers proceeded to Rokupa Community, where the alleged counterfeiting equipment was believed to be located.

At the residence of Abdul Lamin Sesay, officers encountered resistance as the suspect refused to open the door. After repeated requests, police were forced to gain entry and arrest Abdul Lamin Sesay and  Joseph Kabia.

Both individuals were found with counterfeit currency and a blower machine, suspected to be part of the printing process.

Information from the suspects led police to another location in Red Pump, where they recovered Fake Le20 currency notes, a Glock 22 black pistol, and forty (40) rounds of ammunition.

One suspect, identified as Umur B. Kamara, believed to be the ringleader with the complete printing setup, was taken into custody.

All recovered items of police interest, including the fake currency and weaponry, have been transferred to the Kissy Division for further investigation.

The Sierra Leone Police have been praised for their proactive and professional approach in safeguarding the integrity of the nation’s economy and ensuring community safety.
