Port Loko, Sierra Leone – What began as the unveiling of the Bai Mahmoud Bangura (BMB) Foundation in Port Loko transformed into one of the most defining political moments in recent All People’s Congress (APC) history, as Hon. Bai Mahmoud Bangura formally declared his bid for the party’s leadership.
The event drew massive crowds, with party dignitaries, district leaders, regional executives, traditional authorities, and thousands of supporters filling the streets in an atmosphere described as unprecedented. The launch has been hailed as both emotionally charged and politically strategic, reshaping the internal dynamics of the APC and igniting renewed enthusiasm across the Northwest.
Hon. Bai Mahmoud’s arrival was met with jubilation, as supporters chanted his name and waved APC colours in celebration. Deeply moved by the reception in the district he calls his mother’s home, he expressed gratitude to the people of Port Loko, describing the welcome as “a reception that speaks louder than words.”
Addressing the crowd, he paid tribute to past APC comrades whose sacrifices laid the foundation of the party in Port Loko. He urged supporters to remain steadfast, warning against division and emphasizing that “the APC is bigger than any individual. Let us rally behind whoever emerges victorious in 2026.”
With confident assurance, Hon. Bai Mahmoud declared his readiness to serve as the next APC flagbearer and ultimately as President of Sierra Leone. “Port Loko is my mother’s land. It is only fitting that I announce my readiness to lead here,” he stated, drawing thunderous applause and emotional cheers.
His message blended humility with confidence, projecting leadership committed to unity, reform, and progress. Many supporters described his bid as a natural continuation of his years of loyalty and service to both the party and the nation.
Several influential APC figures publicly endorsed his candidacy. Regional Secretary Hon. AKK praised his discipline and consistency, while the District Chairman highlighted his grassroots engagement and commitment to party unity.
During a stakeholders’ engagement, Hon. Bai Mahmoud presented his vision for unity and strategic leadership. In a symbolic gesture of respect to party elders, he donated One Hundred Thousand (100,000) New Leones, widely interpreted as a demonstration of humility, gratitude, and a formal request for their blessing in his leadership pursuit.
Observers say the Port Loko declaration has sparked a powerful movement within the APC, driven by grassroots enthusiasm, growing endorsements, and a message rooted in heritage and discipline. The event is seen not only as the launch of a foundation but as the rise of a national contender whose momentum continues to build across Sierra Leone.
