RCBank Boosts FBC Chemistry Department

Friday, January 31, 2025: In a significant boost to science education, the Chemistry Department of Fourah Bay College (FBC), University of Sierra Leone, has received over 200 customized laboratory coats from Rokel Commercial Bank. This donation, valued at thousands of Leones, aims to enhance the practical training of students, restoring their pride and confidence while instilling a culture of ethics and professionalism.

The department’s leadership lauded this gesture, emphasizing its positive impact on students’ practical experiences. The branded lab coats, emblazoned with the RCBank and FBC logos, symbolize a renewed sense of identity and professionalism among aspiring chemists from Sub-Saharan Africa’s oldest university.

Rokel Commercial Bank Managing Director, Dr. Walton Ekundayo, underscored the importance of supporting the government’s human capital development efforts. He described science education as the foundation for human advancement and global development.

Dr. Ekundayo encouraged the chemistry students to remain focused and seize opportunities to achieve their goals.

“Today we see in you the ability to invent or create something for the global good…the potential to rise beyond Sierra Leone and become scientists out there….most importantly, we want you to become global contributors in the field of science,” Dr. Ekundayo stated.

A student from the Chemistry Department expressed gratitude to Rokel Commercial Bank, noting that the beautifully branded lab coats serve as a greater motivation in their pursuit of excellence.
