Sierra Leone – November 21, 2025: The Rotary Club of Freetown-Sunset has officially handed over a newly constructed public toilet facility to the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and the National Tourist Board (NTB), marking a significant boost to sanitation and tourism services along the popular Aberdeen/Lumley Beach.

The four-cubicle facility, strategically located along one of Freetown’s busiest beach corridors, was developed to address the growing demand for clean, accessible, and reliable sanitation options for beachgoers. Initiated during the previous Rotary year, the project aligns with Rotary International’s global focus on Disease Prevention and Control, promoting hygiene and reducing the spread of sanitation-related illnesses.

Equipped with two high-capacity water tanks, the facility has been designed to ensure a steady and uninterrupted water supply—tackling one of the most pressing challenges facing public sanitation points across the city.

During the handover ceremony, officials from the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and the NTB commended the Rotary Club for its commitment to strengthening national tourism infrastructure. They emphasized that proper sanitation is vital not only for public health but also for creating a welcoming environment for both local visitors and international tourists.

The event was attended by Rotarians, government representatives, community leaders, and beach stakeholders, who described the initiative as a timely and impactful intervention.

Club members highlighted their dedication to service and community partnership, expressing optimism that the facility will serve as a model for future sanitation projects along Sierra Leone’s coastline.

The Rotary Club of Freetown-Sunset reaffirmed its commitment to similar community-focused initiatives aimed at enhancing health, dignity, and the overall beach experience for residents and visitors alike.
