Sierra Leone: Security Sector Warns

Intelligence estimate indicates that individuals, known and unknown, have been engaging in activities including making pronouncements that are tantamount to disrupting the peace and stability of Sierra Leone, the security sector in Sierra Leone said in a statement on Monday.

National Security Coordinator, Brig. Gen. (Rtd.) J.A.O. Jah-Tucker said in a statement that “the Security sector wishes to assure the general public of its avowed commitment to protect the citizens, their well-being and the integrity of Sierra Leone.”

“In the spirit of inclusive and supportive security, everyone is encouraged to remain law abiding and report any suspicious activity that has the tendency to undermine national security. In view of the foregoing, the Security Sector of Sierra Leone wishes to assure the general public that it is in full control and people are encouraged to go about their normal business without any cause for alarm,” the National SecurityCoordinator said.

The security sector comprises the armed forces, police, justice, parliament and intelligence.

The statement of the national security sector came following a press statement from the Sierra Leone Police a couple of months ago warning  against any planned protests.

The statement from the police comes as audio messages circulated on social media call for protests in the capital for allege human rights violations by the government.

The content of the said audios to a very large extent aimed at inciting violence, disaffection and instability in the country.
