Freetown, 22 July 2025 — Sierra Leone continues to enjoy a peaceful and stable security climate, with recent statistics pointing to a sharp decline in criminal activity nationwide.

Deputy Inspector General of Police and Head of the National Taskforce, Sahr Y. Senesi, delivered the update during a press briefing hosted by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education in Freetown. He attributed the improvement in public safety to targeted operations and collaborative efforts with civil society.

DIG Senesi highlighted a strategic meeting held on April 17, 2025, at the Freetown City Council, where leaders from key transport and trade unions were consulted. The session focused on clearing 23 identified streets notorious for congestion and illicit activity. Union leaders pledged to sensitize their members on the objectives of the Taskforce to maintain law and order.

The cleanup campaign has successfully cleared major locations including: Model Junction, Jui Junction, Shell Junction, Wilkinson Road, etc.

These efforts, according to Senesi, have contributed directly to a decline in crime figures.

Crime Statistics Show Substantial Improvement The first quarter of 2025 recorded 8,567 reported crimes, while the second quarter saw a sharp decrease to 3,785 cases — reflecting a drop of 4,782 incidents.

DIG Senesi commended citizens for their cooperation and called for continued vigilance. He reaffirmed the police’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across the nation.

This positive trend reflects growing public confidence in law enforcement and the effectiveness of community-focused strategies.
