Freetown, Sierra Leone – August 26, 2026: The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs (MTCA) has announced an open call for Sierra Leonean singers and musicians to apply for selection to represent the country at the 2026 Itaewon World Music Spirit Festival in Seoul, South Korea.
Scheduled for October 4–6, 2026, the international festival will gather musicians and cultural practitioners from across the globe under themes of Tribute, Healing, Unity, Peace, and Vision. Established in remembrance of victims of the Itaewon crowd disaster, the event is described by organizers as a platform for healing, cultural exchange, and international friendship.
MTCA is working with unions, associations, and guilds in the creative industry to disseminate information and recommend qualified artists. Interested performers must submit one video showcasing their own singing or musical performance to be reviewed by a Ministry committee.

Opportunities for Artists
Successful Sierra Leonean participants may receive support including airfare assistance, complimentary hotel accommodation, a Seoul cultural and sightseeing programme, and a K-Food VIP package, subject to festival selection criteria.
MTCA emphasized that participation offers a significant opportunity to showcase Sierra Leone’s music and creative talent internationally, while advancing the country’s cultural diplomacy. The Ministry has declared 2026 the “Year of Culture and Creativity”, positioning the creative industries at the center of national development and tourism promotion.
The invitation comes amid increased government focus on Sierra Leone’s creative sector, with MTCA rolling out initiatives to promote international festivals, strengthen cultural exchange, and expand opportunities for local artists.
For Sierra Leonean musicians, the Itaewon stage represents a chance to connect with global audiences while contributing to the country’s growing cultural identity abroad.
