San Jose, California — July 8, 2025: Sierra Leonean-born international musician Anthony Seydu Jalloh was awarded the International Act of Excellence at the 2nd Annual Wan Salone Awards, held at the glittering Casa Blanca Hall in San Jose, California. The high-profile ceremony spotlighted outstanding Sierra Leonean talent in arts, culture, and humanitarian work, with a special focus on diaspora contributions.
Dubbed the “Superstar from Salone,” Seydu was celebrated for his decades-long impact on global music and cultural preservation. Known for blending Afro-fusion, soul, reggae, and traditional palm wine rhythms, Seydu’s work has helped internationalize a genre deeply rooted in West African heritage.
Though based in Spain, Seydu remains a fierce ambassador for Sierra Leonean identity. Off the stage, his work in youth empowerment and cultural initiatives has earned him broad respect across continents.
“This award belongs to every young dreamer in Sierra Leone who believes their voice matters,” Seydu shared in his emotional acceptance speech.
Established in 2023, the Wan Salone Awards of Excellence celebrate Sierra Leonean achievements in diverse fields including music, education, community development, and innovation. The annual event brings together diaspora members and African entertainment advocates from the United States and beyond.
Leading the initiative is Salone World of Excellence USA, helmed by James Barack Kamara, a Theatre Technology and Arts student at the University of California. Kamara emphasized the importance of timely recognition for Sierra Leonean trailblazers:
“We aim to give people their flowers while they’re thriving—not posthumously,” he said. “Our country is defined not only by its past struggles, but by its beautiful, inspiring stories. And it’s time we told them ourselves.”
The Wan Salone platform is quickly becoming a beacon for Sierra Leonean pride, showcasing achievements across states like California, Arizona, and Texas, and rewriting the global narrative of Salone talent with vibrancy and purpose.
