The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has issued a strong condemnation of threats made against Amadu Lamrana Bah, presenter of the ‘Morning Devotion’ programme on Truth Radio, describing the incident as a grave attack on press freedom.
The threats surfaced in a disturbing video circulating on social media, allegedly involving Madam Admire Bio. In the footage, a voice in the background is heard issuing threats and using abusive language directed at Mr. Bah, following his public remarks on the harmful impact of Kush—a dangerous substance wreaking havoc among Sierra Leone’s youth.
SLAJ President Alhaji Manika Kamara expressed deep concern over the journalist’s safety, stating, “Threats against journalists are unacceptable and must be treated with the utmost seriousness.” He emphasized that such actions undermine the constitutional rights to freedom of expression and press freedom, as enshrined in Sections 11 and 25(1) of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone.
Call for Action
SLAJ has called on the Sierra Leone Police to launch an immediate investigation into the incident and ensure that journalists can operate without fear, intimidation, or reprisal. The Association also urged public officials, political actors, and citizens to uphold civility and respect for the media’s role as watchdogs of society.
“SLAJ stands in full solidarity with Amadu Lamrana Bah and all journalists committed to truth, accountability, and public service,” the statement read. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to defending press freedom and protecting journalists from threats and harassment.
This incident has sparked renewed calls for stronger protections for media practitioners and a reaffirmation of democratic values in Sierra Leone.
