Party and Government Leaders Unite in Praise for Sierra Leone’s Regional Role
Freetown, July 22, 2026 – The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) administrative leadership and Cabinet have hailed President Julius Maada Bio as a “history maker” following Sierra Leone’s successful hosting and chairing of the 69th ECOWAS Summit.
At a gathering attended by Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and senior party officials, leaders expressed profound appreciation for President Bio’s role in elevating Sierra Leone’s standing within the sub-region.
National Chairman of the SLPP, Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, described the summit as a landmark achievement that showcased Sierra Leone’s growing leadership and the world-class Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre. “The success of the 69th ECOWAS Summit belongs to all Sierra Leoneans. It reflects what we can achieve when we unite in the national interest and work together to promote peace, democracy, regional integration and sustainable development,” he said.
The statement extended gratitude to Cabinet members, opposition leaders, the All Political Parties Association (APPA), the media, and Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad for their collective efforts in making the summit a success.
Leaders emphasized that the achievement underscored President Bio’s vision and commitment to strengthening Sierra Leone’s role in regional cooperation. “Your vision, dedication and steadfast service continue to inspire us all as we work together to build a stronger, more prosperous, peaceful and united Sierra Leone,” the SLPP leadership noted.
The summit, which brought together West African heads of state and government, has been widely regarded as a diplomatic milestone for Sierra Leone, reinforcing the country’s reputation as a reliable partner in advancing peace, democracy, and sustainable development across the region.
