December 18, 2025: The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has honoured its former Secretary General, Umaru Napoleon Koroma, with a prestigious award in recognition of his distinguished service, institutional stewardship, and transformative contributions to the party’s organizational development.
The award was presented during the party’s Inaugural Dinner and Dance in Freetown, an event that brought together senior executives, grassroots leaders, elders, youth representatives, and guests from across the political spectrum.
Recognition of Service
Party officials described the honour as a formal acknowledgment of Koroma’s pivotal role in strengthening internal governance structures and reinforcing party cohesion during critical moments in the SLPP’s history.
Senior figures praised Koroma for his “unwavering fidelity to party ideals and constitutional discipline,” crediting his tenure with advancing administrative reforms, professionalizing party secretariats, and fostering inclusive engagement across regions and demographics.
“Umaru Napoleon Koroma exemplifies principled leadership. His legacy is embedded in the institutional resilience of the SLPP and the culture of service he helped entrench,” a party spokesperson said.
Acceptance Remarks
In his acceptance speech, Koroma expressed deep gratitude to the party leadership and membership, describing the award as a collective tribute to all party workers who laboured behind the scenes to sustain the SLPP through periods of transition and renewal.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and urged members to remain steadfast in unity, discipline, and service to the nation.
Analysts view the recognition as both symbolic and strategic, reinforcing continuity, institutional memory, and respect for service within the SLPP’s ranks.
As applause filled the hall, the moment stood as a testament to the party’s tradition of honouring dedication and reinforcing the values that underpin its political mission.
