Sulima, Pujehun District – February 13–15, 2026: The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs has successfully staged a three-day Culture and Creativity Weekend Getaway at Sulima Beach, spotlighting one of Sierra Leone’s most scenic yet underexplored coastal destinations. The event forms part of the Ministry’s wider strategy to promote domestic tourism, stimulate local economies, and position Sierra Leone’s diverse attractions on the global tourism map.

The official launch was led by Minister Nabeela Farida Tunis, who described Sulima as more than just a border gateway near Liberia. Standing against a backdrop of 40 kilometers of golden sand and rolling Atlantic waves, she reaffirmed government’s commitment to showcasing unique destinations while encouraging investment in hospitality infrastructure such as guest houses, hotels, and marine transport services.

Over the first two days, Sulima became a vibrant hub of culture and creativity. Highlights included:

  • Performances by the Sierra Leone National Dance Troupe, Sierra Leone Acrobat, and the Reggae Union.
  • Culinary exhibitions featuring traditional Sierra Leonean dishes, reinforcing the country’s gastronomic appeal.
  • Community engagement, including relaxed beachfront interactions and a spirited football match between Ministry staff and Sulima’s “Sand Boys.”

The weekend also emphasized wellness, with a beachside yoga session promoting relaxation and healthy living. Evenings came alive with electrifying performances from Star Zee, Amie Kallon, Speedo, Bobby, Apreel, and other dynamic acts, ensuring the celebration of culture and creativity remained in full swing.

The Culture and Creativity Weekend demonstrated the transformative potential of culture-led tourism. By investing in local creatives, engaging communities, and showcasing Sulima’s natural beauty, the Ministry reinforced Sierra Leone’s identity as a destination rich in authenticity and opportunity. Beyond celebration, the event delivered a strong message of resilience, inclusivity, and sustainable growth for the nation’s tourism sector.
