Two Businessmen Remanded for Unlawful Possession of Cannabis Sativa

Freetown, June 4, 2025 – Two businessmen, Yama Kapre Kamara and Abu Conteh, have been remanded by Magistrate Augustine Brima Samura of Pademba Road Court No. 8 after being found in possession of sixteen bales of cannabis sativa.

The accused appeared before the court on charges of possession of a prohibited drug without lawful authority, contrary to Section 8(a) of the National Drug Control Act 2008.

According to court records, the suspects were apprehended on April 27, 2025, at Makondu Village, Lower Yoni Chiefdom in Tonkolili District, Northern Province, with the compressed bales of cannabis sativa.

During proceedings, the charge was read and explained to the accused persons, but no plea was taken. Prosecutor Inspector Aminata Korio requested a short adjournment due to the absence of witnesses.

Magistrate Samura denied bail, citing the seriousness of the offense, and adjourned the matter to June 12, 2025.
