Nice, France — June 2025: The Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change has strengthened Sierra Leone’s environmental agenda by formalizing a landmark partnership with Conservation International at the UN Ocean Conference in Nice, France.
The agreement, signed by Minister Jiwoh E. Abdulai and Conservation International CEO Dr. M. Sanjayan, marks a major step toward advancing Sierra Leone’s climate goals, biodiversity protection, and sustainable development efforts.
As part of the partnership, Conservation International will establish a permanent office in Freetown and work closely with the Ministry to:
– Enhance environmental legislation and policy
– Develop local expertise and institutional capacity
– Strengthen protections for forests, marine ecosystems, and biodiversity corridors
